GRANITE
Granite is a hard volcanic rock belonging to the plutonic group of stones formed from hardened magma in the Earth’s crust. Unlike basalt, granite is formed by the rapid cooling of lava at or near the Earth’s surface. It is, therefore, an extrusive rock. Granite is very hard because it consists mainly of feldspar and quartz. It is characterized by high resistance to abrasion and compression. The rock comes in a wide range of colors. It is often an excellent material for both the interior and exterior of buildings.
